SHERIFF JOHN L. "BUDDY" ALDRIDGE
1975 - 1999
John L. "Buddy" Aldridge served as Sheriff of Colbert County for 24 years. Before becoming sheriff, he worked as an Alcoholic Beverage Control agent. He served as Police and Fire Commissioner for the City of Tuscumbia for nine years and also as a Tuscumbia City Council member for four years.
Mr. Aldridge was a Sergeant 1st Class in the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict as a member of the 31st Dixie Division. He served as president of the Alabama Sheriffs' Association and was on the executive committee of the state Law Enforcement Planning Agency.
He attended First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia where he served as a deacon. He served as commander of the American Legion. He was a member and served as an officer of numerous civic organizations including Sheffield Kiwanis, Tuscumbia Lions Club, a Mason, and the Colbert County Democratic Executive Committee.
He was an avid supporter and board member of the Alabama Boys' and Girls' Ranch and the Boy's and Girls' Attention Home. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and he enjoyed shaking hands and meeting people at the Labor Day festivities at Spring Park and Coon Dog Cemetery. If there was a political rally, you
could find him there.
He was a graduate of Deshler High School and the University of North Alabama.
